Chargers @ Chiefs
CHARGERS +4
The line opened at +3 and the public came on the Chiefs side hard bringing the line to +4. As experienced NFL bettors, we know how key of a number that is to take advantage of. Historically, the most popular margin of victory in the NFL is 3 points.
Offensive line is a concern for LA, but Khalil Mack, Derwin James and the gang looked elite on the defensive side of the ball holding the Raiders to 19 points. Justin Herbert didn’t look too shabby either.
The Chiefs were unstoppable last week as Patty Mahomes threw for 360 yards and 5 touchdowns. Should we really be that surprised? Any offense with Mahomes is going to be high-octane and this blowout win may be more indicative of the Cardinals level of play. This game is going to be tight, and Herbert is fully capable of going punch for punch with Mahomes.
The public had a less than stellar showing last week and they love the Chiefs. Take the points here.
Patriots @ Steelers
PATRIOTS -1 (-125)
The Patriots offense looked terrible last week scoring 7 points with only 271 yards of total offense. Defensively, albeit a 42-yard touchdown on 4th and 7 to end the first half, they looked capable and adequate.
They have a chance to bounce back this week on the road against the Steelers who are coming off an emotional win vs the Bengals. They lost their team’s best overall player DE T.J. Watt in the process which is a crushing blow to a potentially elite defensive unit. The Steelers won the turnover battle 5-0 against the Bengals and the Patriots lost the turnover battle 3-0 vs the Dolphins. I don’t see a Bill Belichick led team getting dominated in the turnover battle like that two week in a row and Trubisky is bound to make a mistake. The Patriots, Mac Jones will be sharper this week and take care of the ball.
The Patriots, under Coach Belichick, are 50-26 (65%) in covering the spread after a loss. Love the Pats here. Another public fade.
Tampa @ Saints
TAMPA BAY -3
Tommy is on the road again after a defensive-led victory in Dallas. Their front 7 was as good as advertised and Leonard Fournette didn’t look out of shape to me! WR Chris Godwin will miss a few weeks, but Tom will have plenty of weapons at his disposal. After all, Tampa Bay is where careers get revived, right Julio?
The Saints defense let up over 400 yards to a Marcus Mariota led offense. Jameis will have to be perfect to win this one and with Alvin Kamara’s status up in the air it could be difficult to move the ball on this defense.
I’ll lay the points with the Bucs here.
NOTE: More plays could be posted over the weekend.
